Bible
|
-The goal of this program is to acquire a thorough
knowledge and understanding of Bible through a curriculum such as that
published by Christian Schools International.
This knowledge and understanding also will encourage children to come
to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
-In grades 7 and 8, there will be an added emphasis
in the area of Guidance, leading students to answer such questions as: Who am I?
Who is my neighbour? What are
my girfts? How do I use my talents for kingdom
living?
-Memory Work will be a part of the Bible curriculum.
-Music and drama will be integraged
into the curriculum.
-Many resources will be available such as classroom
maps, Bible atlases, concordances, videos and Bible research computer
programs.

-The purpose of the program will be to expose
children to and allow them to experience all types of media in Art, thereby
allowing them to grow to their greatest potential in this area.
-There will be a coordinated curriculum with a

– 8, plus a person also available for consultation in the primary
grades.
-There will be a list of excellent choices of
activities to use to teach these skills.

Music
|
-The purpose of the program will be to appreciate
and experience God’s creation through many types of musical
experiences.
-There will be an instrumental Music program for
grades 7 and 8. See appendix for
details and cost.
-There will be three choirs: primary, junior and senior. Choir participation will be mandatory.
-There will be a strong choral segment of the
program. The Kodaly
method will be used. History of Music
will be taught incidentally but theory will be taught intentionally.
-Music classes will consistent of at least 2
half-hour periods per week, except in kindergarten where they would be 2
fifteen-minute periods.
-One music teacher will teach all the choral aspect
of the program.
-One teacher will teach the instrumental part of the
program.
-There will be a dedicated music room for choral and
instrumental programs.
-LHCS will continue to support private lessons in
all areas of Music. These lessons will
be offered to children within the time frame of the school day, but paid for
by the parents. There will be a music
practice room for these private lessons.
-Each year, the whole school or specific divisions
of the school will present a musical drama for the community.

Physical Education
|
-The goal of this program will be to train children
to be physically fit and also to give them skills
and ability to participate in all the sports normally offered at an
elementary school.
-There will be a coordinated curriculum for all the
grades from K through 8. Within that curriculum
there will be a coordinated skills list and suggested activities.
-There will be a specialist teacher/consultant for
grades one through eight.
-The program will sponsor school teams in such areas
as volleyball, basketball, soccer, hockey, track and field, cross-country
running, and baseball. Participation
in tournaments will occur as well as exhibition games when possible.
-Intramurals will be an important part of the
program. There will be scheduled
events in 2 terms of the school year.
These will include grades 5 – 8 and not be mandatory.
-Extra activities such as downhill skiing and cross-
country skiing will be offered to extend the program when possible.
-A complete inventory of existing equipment is
available at the office. See appendix for
equipment needed.
-Facilities need improvement: Outdoor: regulation soccer field, softball
diamond, running track, more black top for games and markings, regulation
jumping pits. Indoor: permanent badminton markings, hardwood
floor and markings, a double gymnasium.

Health
|

advise other teachers, especially for the intermediate grades.
-The program will need a dedicated area such as a
science room so students can discover by manipulation and experiments.
-This program will need supplies and equipment to
enable teachers to provide experiences and experiments. At present we have a good amount of
equipment for experiments. See

-This program will acknowledge, support and promote
extra-curricular activities such as Science Camp and Science Fairs.
-The program will tie in, wherever possible, to

Resource Program
|
-This program will be available to assist those
students who need individualized instuction because
they learn in alternate ways, or are developmentally delayed compared to the
average student in each grade level.
-A part of this program will be for gifted students
who need extra challenges that cannot be provided in the regular classroom.
-Special subject enrichment such as Mathematics will
be provided for sudents who require this. This can be under the supervision of the
Resource department but managed and offered by other specialists from the
community.
-Each year, enrichment will be offered for a
selected period of time to all the three divisions of the school, as an
integrated unit centered around a special topic such
as Music, Environmental Studies, Communication or Medicine.
-Staffing for
this program will be according to the guidelines of the Ontario Alliance of
Christian Schools.
-The Resource room will be large and generous,
approximately 1.5 times the size of a regular classroom.
-Since we will be using the inclusion model for
admission when possible, Personal Service Workers will be included in the
resource program.
-There will be good diagnostic and testing tools
available for this department. See
appendix for additional equipment needed.

APPENDIX
MUSIC EQUIPMENT NEEDED:
In order to implement this we would need to acquire instruments, either
“rent to own” or purchase outright.
A purchase plan would involve an initial purchase of $25,000.00, with
added instrument purchases in other years as the class sizes increase. The initial purchase would involve 7 vito silver flutes, 7 clarinets, 7 trumpets, 7 trombones, 2
alto saxs, 2 tenor saxs, 4
baritones, one 5-piece drum set, one bass drum set, one snare drum set, one bell
kit, one cymbal set. Method books would
be about $10.00 each totaling $400.00. Music stands are about $20.00 each totaling $800.00.
Valve oil and trombone lubricant will cost $100.00 per year. We would need to purchase drum sticks, but
would expect students to purchase their own from us. We would also purchase
mouthpieces but again expect the students to purchase them from us. Added
salary for a band instructor for 2 afternoons per week, would be approximately
$10,00.00.
MATHEMATICS EQUIPMENT NEEDED:
Added to and replacement
as things wear out are such items as tape measures ($20), coin set stamps
($15), clear geo-boards ($75), a set of calculators ($175).
PHYSICAL EDUCATION EQUIPMENT NEEDED:
Along with maintaining current equipment, and replacing that which
wears out, the following is needed:
volleyball poles/net system, lacrosse nets, landing mats for track and
field, 6 T-ball stands, manipulatives for the primary division (scoops), rhythm
sticks and dance streamers.
-Facilities need improvement:
Outdoor:
regulation soccer field, softball diamond, running track, more black top for games and markings, regulation jumping
pits.
Indoors:
permanent badminton markings, hardwood floor and markings, a double
gymnasium.
SCIENCE EQUIPMENT NEEDED:
Additional equipment
needed: bunsen
burners with gas hookup in a lab, 2 dozen bar magnet sets, 2 dozen magnifiers,
50 more test tubes, a number of giant beakers, a dozen D batteries, 2 large
prisms, 2 new accurate weight sets, 2 accurate electronic scales, 6 microscopes,
new sets of prepared slides for celled organisms and plants, plastic tubing, a
hot plate, extension cords, 20 mirrors, 15 250 ml beakers.
RESOURCE EQUIPMENT NEEDED:
An additional amount of $500.00 is needed for this. Additional books and kits total
$1500.00. Additional manipulatives and
games total $1200.00.
