Head lice outbreaks can be a reoccurring problem. Eradicating head lice, once encountered, comes at a considerable cost, inconvenience and effort for all involved. Out of consideration for our school community we require the following actions when head lice are encountered.
The parents will:
Notify the school at once if head lice are found.
Treat the affected students with an effective remedy following the directions thoroughly.
Remove all nits from the hair.
Conducts family head checks frequently and regularly
Indicate treatment compliance on the notification form and return it at the time the student returns to school.
The school will:
Ensure that the Parent Handbook contains information about head lice and treatment for infestation.
Recruit a reliable group of parents who can come in to do head checks as soon as the school has received information about an infestation from one of the parents.
Inform parents of that class that head lice infestation has been reported and send home a Parent Response Form. infection from one of the parents.
Ask the recruited group of parents to do a head check of all the classmates of those infected. If nits are found, the parents are informed as soon as possible so that treatment can be given at home. If live lice are found, the student may be isolated from the class at the discretion of the principle. Parent Response Forms are then sent home with students with live lice or nits.
The Newsletter will contain frequent reminders for parents to do regular head checks for lice.
